(1) It is the
responsibility of a prison officer when he is on duty —
(a) to
examine all locks, bolts, keys, and other locking or unlocking devices or
mechanisms in his area of duty and to report thereon to his superior officer;
and
(b) to
know the number of prisoners who are in his charge or under his supervision at
any time.
(2) In addition to his
ordinary duties a prison officer may be required to perform such duties as the
exigencies of the department require.
