(1) As soon as
practicable after voting in an election has finished, the returning officer
must arrange for the votes to be counted and ascertain the result of the
election.
(2) The candidate who
receives the most votes is elected.
(3) If 2 or more
candidates receive an equal number of votes and they are the only candidates,
or the only non‑defeated candidates —
(a) the
returning officer must draw lots to determine which of the candidates is
elected; and
(b) the
candidate who is successful on lots being drawn is elected.
