This legislation has been repealed.
Where vessels are in
sight of one another, a steamer under way, in taking any course authorised by
the steering and sailing rules for preventing collisions embodied in
regulations made under “ The Merchant Shipping Act 1894, ”
shall indicate that course by the following signals on her whistle, siren, or
horn, namely —
(a) One
short blast meaning, “I am directing my course to starboard”;
(b) Two
short blasts meaning, “I am directing my course to port”;
(c)
Three short blasts meaning, “My engines are going full speed
astern”;
(d) One
long blast followed by two short blasts meaning, “My ship is out of
control, keep clear”.
