This legislation has been repealed.
(1) An alternative
headlamp shall comply with subregulation (1)(a) and (b) of regulation 204
and be capable of rendering easily discernible a person who is dressed in dark
clothing and who is straight ahead of the vehicle, at a distance of
45 metres; and the beam of light projected from that lamp shall be in
accordance with the requirements of paragraph (d) of that subregulation.
(2) When a motor
vehicle is equipped with 2 alternative headlamps, they shall be of
approximately equal luminous intensity and be fitted one on each side of the
vehicle, equidistant from its centre line and at equal height from the ground,
so that the centres of the lamps are not less than 600 millimetres apart.
