PN268
THE COMMISSIONER: Could I have appearances, please?
PN269
MS V. KALAMISTRAKIS: If the Commission pleases, I am from the Transport Workers Union and with me is MR G. NIGHTINGALE from the New South Wales branch of the Transport Workers Union and MR M. BALZAN from QFCL and also the TWU delegate. Thank you.
PN270
MR J. McKENZIE: If the Commission pleases, I appear for Qantas Flight Catering Limited. I have with me MS S. HOLE from the company.
PN271
MR K. DALTON: If the Commission pleases, I am from the Australian Services Union.
PN272
THE COMMISSIONER: Mr McKenzie?
PN273
MR McKENZIE: Commissioner, the correspondence which was sent by the company to you on Friday and to the other parties indicates that the ASU and Mr Bayer are prepared to accept the processes as outlined in QF2 which was the subject of discussions between the parties in last weeks conference. That being that the ASU, in fact, had a different position to the processes as outlined in that letter last week. On that basis, Commissioner, I believe that there is a prospect of perhaps resolving this matter without going to hearing and we would request that we go into conference.
PN274
I've discussed that course of action with the TWU and the ASU. My understanding is that both the TWU and the ASU agree to go into conference first up.
PN275
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes. Mr Dalton, what do you say about that?
PN276
MR DALTON: I concur with Mr McKenzie's comments, Commissioner.
PN277
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes. Ms Kalamistrakis?
PN278
MS KALAMISTRAKIS: Commissioner, we're happy to go into conference. However, we're not hopeful of an outcome and that's why we've made all the witnesses available today.
PN279
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes, we'll go into conference.
NO FURTHER PROCEEDINGS RECORDED [9.44am]
