PN1
MR J. NUCIFORA: I appear for the Australian Services Union.
PN2
MR W. VICKERS: I appear on behalf of Exxon Mobil Companies and with me is MR B. MOORE.
PN3
MR B. DIXON: I appear for BP Australia.
PN4
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes, thank you. Well, we have had a conference in this matter which has ranged about the issues that confront the parties as they consider quite what their approach will be in relation to the Clerks (Oil Companies) Award and their own house award and in some cases - I will use the example of BP - where there are several awards which could be an alternative to the industry award. I am not going to summarise what has happened in the conference except to say that there are many issues facing the parties. In my view no real work has been done as to simplifying these awards.
PN5
Drafts have been circulated from the unit. In Mr Vickers case for the Mobil group it has only recently come to the right place which is regrettable given that several years has gone by. But I am told, and I have got no reason to doubt this, that the parties will endeavour to grab hold of the issues - take hold of the issues that face them. I am going to - to ensure that that happens, and that is that the parties will meet shortly to consider the proposals which have been foreshadowed today by Mr Nucifora and confident that Mr Nucifora will arrange a meeting with the oil proprietors and will, well prior to that date, circulate the material that he wants to have them consider together with any explanatory correspondence which sets out quite what the view of the union is, I will list this for further hearing on Wednesday, 19 June, at 3 o'clock.
PN6
MR NUCIFORA: Sorry, Commissioner, if I may just raise a concern with that date, of the 19th. If that can be changed to another date, I am just not available in fact that week or the week following that.
PN7
THE COMMISSIONER: Is there another officer of the ASU, Mr Nucifora, who can do that?
PN8
MR NUCIFORA: On that day there could be - - -
PN9
THE COMMISSIONER: I am very loath to change that date.
PN10
MR NUCIFORA: Yes, there could be, Commissioner, yes.
PN11
THE COMMISSIONER: All right. So the matter will come on. Do any of the parties wish to add something to the summary that I have given?
PN12
MR VICKERS: No, Commissioner.
PN13
THE COMMISSIONER: We will adjourn until Wednesday, 19 June, at 3 o'clock in Melbourne.
ADJOURNED UNTIL WEDNESDAY, 19 JUNE 2002 [12.35pm]
