C2002/2497
TRANSPORT WORKERS' (SHELL REGIONAL
AVIATION SERVICES) AWARD 2001
Application by the Transport Workers' Union
of Australia to vary the award re safety net
review - wages May 2002
MELBOURNE
11.38 AM, MONDAY, 24 JUNE 2002
PN1
MS J. TISDALE: I appear for the Transport Workers' Union.
PN2
THE COMMISSIONER: Please continue.
PN3
MS TISDALE: Thank you, Commissioner. This is an application by the union to vary the Transport Workers' (Shell Regional Aviation Services) Award 2001. Copies of the application, draft order and notice of listing were served on the respondent on 5 June. I have a statement of service together with a copy of the draft order we are seeking.
PN4
MS TISDALE: Thank you, Commissioner. The draft order includes the arbitrated safety net adjustments arising from both the May 2001 safety net review decision and the May 2002 safety net review decision. This is in line with the principles, as there are no employees covered by this award as yet. It was an award that was just put in place by the parties last year, so there is no - it does not have an actual effect on any people's pay, to put both of the last two safety net increases into the award.
PN5
THE COMMISSIONER: So there is no cost to anyone.
PN6
MS TISDALE: That is correct. There is no cost to any employer. In line with the principles, the wage related allowances have been adjusted in accordance with principle 5, and expense related allowances have been increased by CPI. The minimum payment for supported wages system has also been increased to $56 in line with the decision in PR918422. We give the commitment required in relation to absorption of the safety net increases. Now, the award has not yet been varied for safety net increases, so we would seek an operative date of today's date. If the Commission pleases.
PN7
THE COMMISSIONER: Thank you, Ms Tisdale. The application is granted. The matter is adjourned.
ADJOURNED INDEFINITELY [11.40am]
