THIS MATTER WAS CONDUCTED BY TELSTRA CONFERLINK
PN1
Telstra conferencing recording of Commissioner F. Raffaelli's conference call for the Australian Industrial Relations Commission on 28 November 2002, 9.30 am Melbourne daylight time.
PN2
PAM: Good morning everybody. This is Pam from Telstra conferencing. Do I have on line Ms Linda White?
PN3
MS WHITE: Yes.
PN4
PAM: I have Jasmine - - -
PN5
JASMINE: Yes.
PN6
PAM: - - - in place of David Hargrave?
PN7
JASMINE: Thank you.
PN8
PAM: And Commissioner Frank Raffaelli. Should you require assistance during the call you can either star then zero on your touch phone and that will signal or if you are disconnected call 1800 637 952. The conference number is 137 and at the Commissioner's request this conference is being recorded. Thank you, go ahead, please.
PN9
MS ..........: Good morning everyone. If you just hold I will put the Commissioner on, thank you.
PN10
THE COMMISSIONER: Hello?
PN11
MS ..........: Good morning, Commissioner.
PN12
MS ..........: Good morning, Commissioner.
PN13
THE COMMISSIONER: Okay, is that you, Ms White?
PN14
MS WHITE: Yes, I am here, yes.
PN15
THE COMMISSIONER: Right, and who else? Ms Strimer, is it?
PN16
MS J. STRIMER: That is right, Commissioner.
PN17
THE COMMISSIONER: Okay. Well, this matter was on in early October and there was going to be some - I think the AIG was looking at something, appropriate designations or definitions etcetera. Can someone report as to what has been happening and what has happened?
PN18
MS STRIMER: Yes, thank you, Commissioner. As at this time, the representatives of the board of Airline Representatives of Australia have been meeting regarding this matter. Since our last conference before you significant progress has been made and we are approaching the final part of what - the work that we have been doing on this matter. Speaking with Mr Hargraves this morning he tells me that in another two to three weeks the parties will be ready to hand their draft over to the union and to begin considering the next part of this process so that is where we are at at the moment.
PN19
THE COMMISSIONER: Right, and so far you have had no - there has been no discussions with the ASU?
PN20
MS STRIMER: Not at this time, not yet.
PN21
THE COMMISSIONER: Right. So you can't add to that can you, Ms White?
PN22
MS WHITE: No.
PN23
THE COMMISSIONER: No.
PN24
MS WHITE: I can confirm there has been no discussion with the ASU and we, I guess, will await the draft and/or respond as soon as we get that. We are consulting generally among our membership in anticipation but that will begin in earnest when we receive something from the AIG.
PN25
MS STRIMER: As I am sure you can appreciate, Commissioner, such a process and dealing with many airlines who all want a say in the process has made it a slightly longer process to get the ball rolling then we had initially expected but as I said before significant work has been done and we are nearing the end of that process and to get ready to begin negotiations with the ASU in the near future.
PN26
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes. What timeframe should we have because I propose adjourning and then re-listing the matter again by phone for report back?
PN27
MS WHITE: Yes.
PN28
MS STRIMER: Yes.
PN29
THE COMMISSIONER: What timeframe, given the period of the year - - -
PN30
MS STRIMER: Yes.
PN31
THE COMMISSIONER: - - - should we have to re-list the matter and I say re-list it following discussions - you know, in other words, at a time after the ASU have got a document and there has been some discussions between you?
PN32
MS STRIMER: If that was the case, Commissioner, I wouldn't think about re-listing it before beginning of February.
PN33
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes, yes, okay. You agree with that, Ms White?
PN34
MS WHITE: Yes, I think that is probably the sagest course from our point of view.
PN35
THE COMMISSIONER: Okay, all right. Well, look, what I will do is I won't give you the date now but it will be by phone so that tends to enable you to fit in. If not, we will change it. But I will re-list it. It is some time in early February for a further report back but I think it is important to have these dates so that we don't let the thing slide. Okay, thank you both.
PN36
MS WHITE: Thank you, Commissioner.
PN37
MS STRIMER: Thank you, Commissioner.
PN38
THE COMMISSIONER: Goodbye.
