PN1
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes, if I could have the appearances please?
PN2
MR D. MILLS: I appear for Qantas Airways Limited in this matter.
PN3
MR D. SWEET: If it please the Commission, I appear for the CEPU in this matter.
PN4
MS L. PIPER: I appear for the Community and Public Sector Union.
PN5
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes, thank you. Well, as with the LHMU matter, I've read the documents and am satisfied with them in relation to the certifying of the agreement, but if there is anything in particular, Mr Mills, that you wish to draw to my attention or say.
PN6
MR MILLS: Not necessarily, Commissioner. I think I would just like to say on behalf of the company that we appreciate the spirit in which the negotiations with the CEPU and CPSU have taken place. There's no secret to the history as to certain disputes that occurred in the past and the negotiations in this particular agreement, whilst robust at times, have been extremely successful and we would like to thank the CEPU and the CPSU for that. Other than that, I think the statutory declarations succinctly cover off what's required and we believe that the agreement should be certified in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
PN7
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes, thank you, Mr Mills. Mr Sweet?
PN8
MR SWEET: I have nothing to add, Commissioner.
PN9
THE COMMISSIONER: Thank you. Ms Piper?
PN10
MS PIPER: I have nothing to add, Commissioner.
PN11
THE COMMISSIONER: Yes, thank you. Yes, this is an application to have certified an agreement that is to be known as the CEPU (Qantas Airways Limited) Enterprise Agreement VI or six. The parties to the agreement are Qantas, the CPSU and the CEPU for short. On the basis of the submissions and documentation the Commission is satisfied the relevant requirements of the Act and the rules of the Commission have been complied with. The agreement will be certified and will come into force from 5 December 2002 and will remain in force until 30 June 2004. On that basis, these proceedings are now adjourned. Thank you.
ADJOURNED INDEFINITELY [9.51am]
