HOBART
9.36 AM, THURSDAY, 7 OCTOBER 2004
PN1
MR C.J. DODDS: I appear on behalf of the applicant union.
PN2
MR D. PYRKE: I appear on behalf of the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers (Australia).
PN3
MS J. THOMAS: I appear for the Local Government Association of Tasmania on behalf of member councils respondent to the award.
PN4
THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT: Thank you. Mr Dodds, it is an application by your union. Do you want to speak to the - - -
PN5
MR DODDS: Yes, thank you, Madam Deputy President. This application is in identical terms to several matters which you dealt with earlier this year. The application merely seeks to give effect to the safety net review wages decision of May 2004 contained within Print Number 002004 and to increase wages by an amount of $19 per week and to accordingly increase allowances in accord with the Furnishing and Glass Industry Trades Allowance decision N9675. I have submitted a copy of the draft order to your associate and I merely seek ratification of that order by the Commission. I can indicate that the application is in accordance with the principles of this Commission. If it pleases.
PN6
THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT: There is just one query. Our records show that the previous or the last 12 months is 11 October, not 9 October: first pay period on or after 11 October.
PN7
MR DODDS: I would stand corrected, Madam Deputy President.
PN8
THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT: If you disagree would you take it up with my associate. She keeps those records. Mr Pyrke?
PN9
MR PYRKE: Thank you, your Honour. I support the application and I also support Mr Dodds' submission in support of it. If the Commission pleases.
PN10
THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT: Thank you. Ms Thomas?
PN11
MS THOMAS: Yes, the employers consent to the variation of the award as set out in the agreed draft order. If it pleases.
PN12
THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT: You have checked all the figures?
PN13
MS THOMAS: Yes, we did, and we even corrected a couple.
PN14
THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT: Excellent. All right, this is an application to vary the Municipal Officers (Tasmania) Award 2002 to give effect to the safety net review decision of 2004. The application is by consent. The parties have checked the figures in the draft order and agree that they are correct. Accordingly, the award will be varied in accord with the draft order and the order will take effect from the first full pay period on or after 11 October and remain in force for a period of six months. I wish they were all that easy. Thank you, that matter is adjourned.
ADJOURNED INDEFINITELY [9.39am]
