Australian Press Council |
The Gold Coast City Council has complained to the Australian Press Council of an article in The Gold Coast Bulletin on May 24, 1979, headed "What are our aldermen worth? - you'll know soon. Allowances to be probed".
The article reported a decision of the City Council to have an independent firm of consultants "start working out just what the City Council aldermen are worth", and it made the comment that this made it clear that "aldermen intend to vote themselves a pay rise".
The question of aldermanic allowances was under consideration at the time and in the opinion of the Press Council the paper's comment was legitimate and did not warrant a complaint.
There was no valid ground of complaint against the article and the complaint was dismissed.
