Adjudication No. 78 (March 1980) [1980] APC 4

ADJUDICATION No. 78 (March 1980)

The Australian Press Council has received a complaint from the editor of a Darwin newspaper against a rival newspaper concerning an article in the latter paper which the complainant contends contained insulting and abusive comment about him and was apparently published, he says, with the intention of ridiculing him and disrupting personnel relations at his establishment.

The council has read the article, which is semi humorous and sarcastic, but finds nothing in it which can be retarded as insulting or abusive. An intention of mildly ridiculing the complainant can be discerned, but there is nothing that Goes beyond the limits of journalistic ethics. The complaint is therefore dismissed.
