Adjudication No. 133 (June 1982) [1982] APC 13

ADJUDICATION No. 133 (June 1982)

Mr I. Gilfillan of the Australian Democrats Party has complained to the Australian Press Council of the failure of The Advertiser to publish a statement on the current controversy in South Australia about a proposal recently before the South Australian Parliament for legislation authorising what is known as the Roxby Downs venture.

The Press Council is unable to see that the newspaper, in deciding what to publish and what not among the many items competing for space in its pages, was under any moral obligation to publish what one person or group, however prominent, chose to write about a subject of public controversy.

The complaint is dismissed.
