Australian Press Council |
The Australian National Flag Association of Queensland complains of statements in an article in The Bulletin of December 12, 1985 by Ron Saw concerning the Australian flag. Mr Saw is the person who heads Ausflag and in the article he expressed some unflattering opinions about the Australian flag and gave a very partial summary of the history of its adoption which emphasised aspects suiting his argument.
The complainant seeks to analyse the statements literally and treat the article as if it were an attempt to give a serious history of the adoption of the flag, by which standards it is open to criticism. In the opinion of the Press Council this misconceives the nature of the article, which is to give an obviously partisan viewpoint.
The complaint is dismissed.
