Australian Senate Standing Committee for the Scrutiny of Bills - Scrutiny Digests |
1.1 On 21 June 2023, the Minister for Education (the Hon Jason Clare MP) circulated a supplementary explanatory memorandum to the bill.
1.2 The committee thanks the minister for providing a correction to the explanatory memorandum, which includes key information requested by the committee in relation to the availability of independent merits review.[2]
1.3 On 21 June 2023, the House of Representatives agreed to 93 Crossbench amendments to the bill.
1.4 The committee welcomes the House of Representatives amendments to the bill which appear to address the committee's concerns relating to parliamentary scrutiny and the requirement to table reports in Parliament.[3]
1.5 The committee makes no comment on amendments made or explanatory materials relating to the following bills:
• Social Security (Administration) Amendment (Income Management Reform) Bill 2023;[4]
• Treasury Laws Amendment (2022 Measures No. 4) Bill 2022;[5] and
• Treasury Laws Amendment (Refining and Improving Our Tax System) Bill 2023.[6]
