Although details are not yet finalised, you might like to pencil in the period of July 5-9 1999 as the likely dates. Our first Law via Internet Conference in June 1997 was a sell-out. We will announce the conference on News from AustLII. ------------------------------------------- AUSTLII TO OBTAIN WESTERN AUSTRALIA SUPREME COURT DECISIONS The Attorney General for Western Australia, the Hon Peter Foss QC MLC has given approval for decisions of the Supreme Court of Western Australia to be added to the AustLII database subject to an appropriate licence agreement being entered into. We are awaiting the agreement for signature and the decisions from the court, and will then provide the database as soon as possible. AustLII thanks the Attorney-General for Western Australia, the Western Australian Government and the Supreme Court of Western Australia for making the decisions available. ------------------------------------------- THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN 1998 We would like to send an end-of-year 'thank you' to all the organisations and individuals who have helped AustLII in 1998. Special thanks to all our major funding sources: the Australian Research Council, the Law Foundation of New South Wales, the Australian Business Chamber, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation. We are also grateful to our Law Faculties (UTS and UNSW) for infrastructure assistance and general support, and to all others who have assisted with our funding. AustLII would not exist without access to the data provided by Courts, Tribunals, Offices of Parliamentary Counsel, Law Reform Commissions and our numerous other sources. We thank all our data sources both for your commitment to free access to the law, and for your day-to-day help in providing the data to us in an efficient and cooperative way. Special thanks are due to the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department and SCALEplus, who have continued to supply us with important databases, and with whom we cooperate in other ways. Our users continue to be our greatest advocates, and we thank you. It is your enthusiasm for AustLII that makes it possible for us to convince governments, courts and others to provide both the data and the funds on which free public access to the law depends. Please keep up the good work in 1999! ------------------------------------------- PLEASE CONTACT US Finally, we would like to invite you to contact us if your organisation would like to become more involved with AustLII. Courts, Tribunals and other organisations holding important public legal information are invited to contact us to discuss how their databases could be published via AustLII. We also welcome enquiries concern the advantages of an organisation providing sponsorship for databases on AustLII. Enquiries should be directed to AustLII's Manager Philip Chung (philip(at)austlii.edu.au) or Co-Director Graham Greenleaf (graham(at)austlii.edu.au). ------------------------------------------- NEW AUSTLII STAFF APPOINTMENTS AustLII has had a number of new staff appointments and changes over the last few months.
