BEST WISHES FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON

The AustLII Team wishes you all a happy and safe festive season and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2006.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our major funding sources: the Australian Research Council, CCH Australia Limited, Thomson Legal & Regulatory Ltd, Australian Business Limited, the Federal Attorney-General's Department, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Department of Defence.

We are also very grateful to our Law Faculties (UTS and UNSW) for their infrastructure assistance and general support, and to all others who have assisted with our funding. A complete list of AustLII's funding sources for 2005 may be found at <http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/sponsors/>.

AustLII would not exist without access to the data provided by the Courts, Tribunals, Offices of Parliamentary Counsel, Law Reform Commissions and our numerous other sources. We thank all our data sources both for their commitment to free access to the law, and for their day-to-day help in providing the data to us in an efficient and cooperative way.

The users of AustLII continue to be our greatest advocates, and we thank you. It is your enthusiasm for AustLII that makes it possible for us to convince governments, courts and others to provide both the data and the funds on which free public access to the law depends.

IT'S OFFICIAL: AUSTLII HAS MOVED

At the end of October, AustLII commenced its move to new, larger and more modern office accommodation which was generously provided by UTS, one of AustLII's host universities. We are relieved to say that the move was completed in early November with only minor service interruption.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding while we worked through some data synchronisation and updating issues as we commissioned the new, faster network and computer equipment.

AustLII's new contact details may be found on our website at <http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/contact.html>.

LAW VIA THE INTERNET CONFERENCE 2005

PacLII and AustLII co-hosted the 7th Conference on Computerisation of Law via the Internet from 17-19 November in Port Vila, Vanuatu. We would like to thank all our speakers, delegates and sponsors in making the conference such a success.

Conference highlights are available at: <http://www.paclii.org/paclii/conference/2005/highlights/>

NATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME TO RETURN IN 2006

The AustLII National Training Programme in Internet Legal Research, in conjunction with Continuing Legal Education at UNSW and with the generous assistance of CCH Australia Limited, has completed its second year of operation.

The programme provided courses in Internet legal research throughout Australia to assist our users in obtaining the maximum benefit from their use of AustLII, WorldLII, and other Internet legal research tools in Australia and overseas.

The programme has been a great success, with courses having been held in Canberra, Brisbane, Darwin, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Building on that success, we are currently working on updating the courses which we plan to offer again in 2006. Dates and venues around Australia will be posted on our training pages at <http://www.austlii.edu.au/training/> when the details have been finalised.
