“ The police procedures in this case were fundamently unfair and the accused did not   have a fair trial As has been pointed out, it would be farcical to insist on the highest standards of fairness in the courts while at the same time tolerating a low standard of fairness in police procedures which take place before an accused person reaches the court See, for example
