[Court of Criminal Jurisdiction, Van Diemen's Land - Van Diemen's Land]
Criminal Court in Hobart, 1821
Court of Criminal Jurisdiction
Source: Sydney Gazette, 17 February 1821
The Court of Criminal Jurisdiction commenced its session at Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land, on Friday the 19th ultimo [19th of January 1821]. By a private letter, for the authenticity of which we can vouch, we learn that 25 have been capitally convicted; 18 have been transported, under various sentences, to Newcastle, who have been conveyed hither by the Midas; and that 13 remained for trial, when the Midas left; three of which number were for sheep-stealing, and one for murder. Some of the most interesting trials we will appear under the head Hobart Town Intelligence.
