[1] This appeal is allowed for reasons to be given in writing at a later date. The convictions are set aside.A new trial is ordered.Counsel are requested to file written submissions on the point concerning s19 of the Evidence Act 1908 which may form part of the Court's reasoning, albeit the appeal is allowed in any event on grounds not touching s19.

[2] The timetable for the submissions is appellant within 7 days, Crown within a further 7 days, and appellant in reply (if desired) within a further 7 days.
