Decision No. 428/2003
IN THE MATTER of the Sale of Liquor Act 1989
AND
IN THE MATTER of an application by JOJI’S SUSHI BAR LIMITED pursuant to s.18 of the Act for renewal of an on-licence in respect of premises situated at 186 Manchester Street, Christchurch, known as “Joji’s Sushi Restaurant”
BEFORE THE LIQUOR LICENSING AUTHORITY
Chairman: District Court Judge E W Unwin
Member: Mr J C Crookston
DECISION
This is an application by Joji’s Sushi Bar Limited for renewal of an on-licence in respect of premises situated at 186 Manchester Street, Christchurch, known as “Joji’s Sushi Restaurant”.
The Police have expressed concerns about the ability of the management to comply with the requirements of the Act, due to language difficulties. By consent, the parties have agreed to a renewal period less than the usual three years to enable the reporting authorities to monitor the licensee.
A District Licensing Agency may only grant an unopposed application for renewal of an on-licence for a term of three years. Accordingly, the present application has been forwarded to the Authority for determination.
We are satisfied as to the matters to which we must have regard as set out in s.22 of the Act. We renew the licence for a period of one year to 8 May 2004 and authorise the issue of a notice of renewal.
DATED at WELLINGTON this 18th day of June 2003
