HEARING at WHANGAREI on 9 July 2008

APPEARANCES

Mr G R Madden – applicant

ORAL DECISION OF THE AUTHORITY

[1] This is an application by George Raymond Madden for the renewal of his General Manager's Certificate. Mr Madden has held his certificate since 2003. The certificate fell due for renewal on 2 October 2007.

[2] Mr Madden has primarily used the certificate in assisting with the running of a bowling club at Ruawai. Mr Madden did not supply a copy of the requisite Licence Controller Qualification, and letters were sent to him advising that the certificate could not be renewed absent this qualification.

[3] Mr Madden has appeared at the public hearing and produced confirmation that he has now passed the requisite unit standards 4646 and 16705. The letter indicates that the Licence Controller Qualification will be sent to him within a very short period of time. Mr Madden has been good enough to also produce two references as to his character and reputation.

[4] The absence of the qualification is the only impediment to the grant of the renewal of the certificate for three years. Accordingly the application is now adjourned for six weeks on the understanding that if a copy of the qualification is presented to the Agency within that period of time, then the certificate will be renewed for the three-year period. If nothing further is heard from Mr Madden then the application will have to be declined.

[5] In the meantime the application is adjourned for six weeks.

DATED at WELLINGTON this 21st day of July 2008
