ORAL DECISION OF THE AUTHORITY

[1] This is a rehearing of an application by Pravin Nana Ranchhod for the renewal of his General Manager’s Certificate.

[2] The application first came before the Authority on 1 September 2008. On that occasion Mr Ranchhod did not appear. We took the view from his non-appearance and the lack of any explanation, that he no longer intended to pursue the application. The application had come before us because of an adverse report received from the Police in relation to current charges of receiving.

[3] Mr Ranchhod made application for a rehearing. He stated that there was a misunderstanding between himself and his lawyer about the need to appear. In the event enquiries were made and the application was granted. At the rehearing Mr Ranchhod was represented by Mr Rickard-Simms. The Police confirmed that the receiving charges had been dealt with in the District Court and that all the charges had been dismissed. Because the events were alleged to have occurred over three years ago, the Police Licensing Officer had determined that any opposition to the renewal should be withdrawn.

[4] On that basis there are no further impediments to the renewal of the General Manager’s Certificate. The application is granted.

DATED at WELLINGTON this 27th day of February 2009
