IN THE MATTER of an application by SAFARI HOSPITALITY LIMITED pursuant to s.18 of the Act for renewal of an on-licence in respect of premises situated at 154 Aikmans Road, Christchurch, known as "Aikmans and Zanzibar"
BEFORE THE LIQUOR LICENSING AUTHORITY
Chairman: District Court Judge J D Hole

DECISION
This is an application by Safari Hospitality Limited for renewal of an on-licence in respect of premises situated at 154 Aikmans Road, Christchurch, known as "Aikmans and Zanzibar". The business trades as a tavern with hours authorised for the sale of liquor from Monday to Sunday between 7.00 am and 3.00 am the following day. No changes are sought to the conditions of the licence.
Advertising did not attract any public objection, however reports from the Police and Medical Officer of Health opposed renewal based upon perceived management deficiencies.
Following discussions and an improvement in the manner in which the business is being conducted the regulatory authorities have withdrawn opposition with a recommendation that the on-licence be renewed for a shortened term of two years during which compliance will continue to be monitored The applicant has agreed to accept this course of action. Accordingly we deal with the matter on the papers.
We are satisfied as to the matters to which we must have regard as set out in s.22 of the Act. We renew the licence on the existing terms and conditions until 4 August 2013, that being two years from the first anniversary of the licence, and we authorise the issue of a notice of renewal.
DATED at WELLINGTON this 19TH day of December 2011
