Commonwealth Consolidated Regulations Commonwealth Consolidated Regulations(1) A medical practitioner may refer a patient to a specialist or consultant physician.
(2) An optometrist may refer a patient to a specialist who is an ophthalmologist.
(3) A dental practitioner who is approved by the inister for the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of professional service in subsection 3(1) of the Act may refer a patient to a specialist or consultant physician.
(4) A dental practitioner to whom subsection (3) does not apply may refer a patient to a specialist (but not a consultant physician).
(5) A participating midwife may refer a patient to an obstetrician or paediatrician.
(6) A participating nurse practitioner may refer a patient to a
specialist or consultant physician.
