(1) The result of an
election is to be ascertained by scrutiny.
(2) The scrutiny must
commence as soon as practicable after the close of poll and may be adjourned
from time to time as may be necessary until the counting of the votes is
complete.
(3) Despite
subsection (2), the returning officer or a deputy returning officer may
undertake a preliminary scrutiny of declaration voting papers (without opening
any envelope) before the close of poll.
