(1) Subject to this Part, an inpatient has a right to communicate lawfully with any person, including by electronic communication.

(2) Without limiting subsection (1), an inpatient has a right to communicate with any person for the purpose of—
(a) seeking legal advice or legal representation; or
(b) seeking the services of a mental health advocate.
(3) The members of staff of a designated mental health service must ensure that reasonable steps are taken to assist an inpatient to communicate lawfully with any person.
