Western Australian Numbered Acts Western Australian Numbered Acts (1) The amendments in
this section are to the Children’s Court of Western Australia
Act 1988 .
(2) Section 3(1)
is amended by inserting in the appropriate alphabetical position —
“
“legal practitioner” means an Australian
legal practitioner within the meaning of that term in the Legal Profession
Act 2008 section 3;
”.
(3)
Section 3(2)(a) and (b) are deleted and the following is inserted
instead —
“
(a) standing and practice as a legal practitioner;
or
”.
(4)
Section 3(2)(d) is amended by deleting “2 or more” and
inserting instead —
“ both ”.
(5) Section 7(2)
is repealed and the following subsection is inserted instead —
“
(2) A person is not eligible for appointment as a judge
unless that person is an Australian lawyer, within the meaning of that term in
the Legal Profession Act 2008 section 3, and has had not less than
8 years’ legal experience.
”.
