A 3-4 day live-in conference to respond to the NSW Government's proposals for main-streaming Aboriginal affairs will be held in Sydney January 30 - February 2.
The sponsors of the conference are the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Sydney and the Aboriginal Affairs committee of the other mainline Christian Churches. Representatives met with Nick Greiner on October 20th. He accepted the proposed conference and promised the government would listen to the conference's proposals.
The aim of the conference is to achieve a consensus concerning what can be done to meet the problem of conflict within the land councils and to formulate policies which the majority of Aboriginal people can believe in. For this reason the conference hopes that Aboriginal representative from the whole of the state will participate. The convenors state that it must include the grass-roots people as well as the prominent people.
