CORONERS ACT 1997 (NO. 57 OF 1997) - SECT 77

Obligation to report death

77. (1) A person shall report a death to a Coroner or a police officer if the person has reasonable grounds for believing that—

        (a)     the death is one in respect of which a Coroner would have jurisdiction to hold an inquest; and

        (b)     the death has not been reported to a Coroner.

(2) A police officer to whom a death has been reported under subsection (1) shall report the death to a Coroner.

Penalty: 50 penalty units or imprisonment for 6 months, or both.
