NAVIGATION ACT 2012 - SECT 233

  (1)   A person who finds or takes possession of a ny wreck i n, or brings a ny wreck into, the territorial sea of Australia must give notice to AMSA within the period prescribed by the regulations :

  ( a)   that the person has found or taken possession of the wreck or brought the wreck into the territorial sea of Australia ; and

  (b)   of the location of the wreck and the marks by which it may be recognised.

Fault - based offence

  (2 )   A person commits an offence if the person contravenes subsection   ( 1 ).

Penalty:   60 penalty units.

Civil penalty

  (3 )   A person is liable to a civil penalty if the person contravenes subsection   ( 1 ).

Civil penalty:   180 penalty units.
