COMMONWEALTH AUTHORITIES AND COMPANIES ACT 1997 No. 153 of 1997 - SECT 23

23 Officers must not make improper use of inside information or position

(1) An officer (or former officer) of a Commonwealth authority must not make
improper use of inside information or of his or her position as an officer in
order to:

   (a)  gain an advantage, either directly or indirectly, for himself or
        herself or for another person; or

   (b)  cause detriment to the authority or to another person. Note: This is a
        civil penalty provision and Schedule 2 sets out the civil and criminal
        consequences of contravening it.

(2) If an officer is also a public servant, nothing done by the officer in the
normal course of the performance of his or her duties as a public servant is
to be regarded as improper for the purposes of subsection (1). For this
purpose, public servant means an officer or employee within the meaning of the
Public Service Act 1922.

(3) In this section:
inside information means information obtained because of the person's position
as an officer.
