Commonwealth Electoral Legislation Amendment Act 1983 No. 144 of 1983 - SECT 40

40. (1) Section 57 of the Principal Act is amended-

         (a)  by omitting from sub-section (1) ''direct the Registrar to'';
and

   (b)  by omitting sub-sections (2) and (3) and substituting the following
        sub-sections:

''(2) The Divisional Returning Officer shall give notice in the approved form
of his determination of an objection under sub-section (1) to the objector and
to the person objected to.

''(3) Notice under sub-section (2) may be given to the person objected to by
being posted to an address or place to which a notice of objection could be
posted to the person objected to under sub-section 55 (2).''.

(2) The amendment made by sub-section (1) applies in relation to objections
that are determined after the commencement of this section (whether the
objection was lodged before or after the commencement of this section).
