Commonwealth Electoral Legislation Amendment Act 1983 No. 144 of 1983 - SECT 46

46. Section 62 of the Principal Act is amended-

         (a)  by omitting ''The date'' and substituting ''Subject to
sub-section (2), the date'';

         (b)  by omitting ''seven'' and ''twenty-one'' and substituting ''11''
and ''28'' respectively; and

   (c)  by adding at the end thereof the following sub-section:

''(2) Where a candidate for an election dies, after being nominated and before
12 o'clock noon on the day fixed by the writ as the date of nomination for the
election, the day fixed as the date of nomination for the election shall,
except for the purposes of section 63, be taken to be the day next succeeding
the day so fixed.''.
