STATES GRANTS (PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ASSISTANCE) ACT 1996 No. 70, 1996 - SECT 52

(1) Subject to subsection (2), the Minister may make a determination
authorising the making of payments to a State, by way of financial assistance
to the State for a program year for expenditure in respect of the program year
in connection with government schools in the State with the objective of
fostering the development of literacy or numeracy skills, particularly among
students who are educationally disadvantaged.

(2) The sum of the amounts paid to the States under this section for a program
year must not be greater than the amount set out in column 2 of Schedule 6 in
relation to the program year. Note 1: Certain amounts paid to a State under
section 77 are taken to be paid under this section.
