1990 No. 443 AUSTUDY REGULATIONS - REG 107

Allowances to witnesses
107. (1) If a witness is summoned to appear before the Tribunal, the Convenor
may authorise the payment to the witness of:

   (a)  if the witness is summoned as an expert witness (that is, because of
        professional, scientific or other special skill or knowledge):

        (i)    between $45 and $225 (inclusive) for each day; and

   (ii) a reasonable amount for any research or other preparation to give
        evidence; and

   (b)  if the witness loses wages, salaries, or fees by appearing and is not
        summoned as an expert witness - the amount lost, up to $50 (inclusive)
        for each day; and

   (c)  in any other case - up to $35 (inclusive) a day.

(2) The Convenor may also authorise the payment to the witness of a reasonable
amount:

   (a)  for travel to and from the place of the hearing; and

   (b)  for meals and accommodation if the witness must be away from home
        overnight to attend the hearing. Note to Chapter 7
  A student may ask the Department of Employment, Education and   Training to

review a decision.  If the student remains dissatisfied,   he or she may then

appeal to the Student Assistance Review Tribunal.   Details of the student's

rights of appeal are set out in Part 5 of   the Student Assistance Act 1973.
