1988 NO. 158 CIVIL AVIATION REGULATIONS - REG 178
Minimum height for I.F.R. flight
178. (1) Subject to this regulation, an aircraft shall not, except when
necessary for take-off or landing, be flown at a height less than 1,000 feet
above the highest obstacle located within 5 miles of the aircraft in flight.
(2) The Authority may designate the lowest safe altitude for a specified
route segment and shall publish notification of each designation in AIP or, if
the circumstances so require, in NOTAMS.
(3) Except when necessary for take-off or landing, an aircraft shall not be
flown along a route segment at a height less than the lowest safe altitude so
designated for the route segment.
