1984 No. 425 FAMILY LAW RULES - ORDER 23 RULE 3

Child taking or defending proceedings
3. (1) Where a party to proceedings is a child, the court may, at any time, if
it is satisfied that the party does not understand the nature and possible
consequences of the proceedings or is not capable of conducting the
proceedings on the party's own behalf, require that a next friend of the party
be appointed for the purposes of the proceedings in accordance with Division
3.

(2) Where under sub-rule (1), the court requires the appointment of a next
friend, it may order a stay of proceedings for such time and upon such terms
as it thinks fit.
