DISTRICT COURT ACT 1973 - SECT 17
Acting Chief Judge
(1) The Governor may, by commission under the public seal of the State,
appoint a Judge to be Acting Chief Judge during such period as the Chief Judge
may be absent from duty.
(1A) Unless the Governor has made an appointment
under subsection (1) (and without limiting subsection (1)), the Attorney
General may, by instrument in writing, appoint a Judge to be Acting
Chief Judge during such period as the Chief Judge may be absent from duty.
(1B) An appointment under this section may be made for a particular absence or
for any absence that occurs from time to time.
(2) While holding office, the
Acting Chief Judge shall have the powers and authorities and fulfil the duties
of the Chief Judge, and is entitled to be paid remuneration at the rate
provided for the Chief Judge.
(3) In this section,
"absent from duty" includes a vacancy in the office of Chief Judge.
