513 Direction to stop heavy vehicle to enable exercise of other powers
(1) To enable an authorised officer to exercise a power under this Law, the
officer may direct the driver of a heavy vehicle to stop the vehicle.
Example--: An authorised officer may direct the driver of a heavy vehicle to
stop the vehicle so that the authorised officer can enter and inspect it under
section 520 or enter and search it under section 521.
(2) The direction may
be given orally or in any other way, including, for example, by way of a sign
or electronic or other signal.
(3) The direction may require the heavy
vehicle to be-- (a) stopped immediately; or
(b) stopped at a place indicated
by the authorised officer as the nearest place for it to be safely stopped.
(4) A person given a direction under subsection (1) must comply with the
direction, unless the person has a reasonable excuse. : Maximum
penalty--$6000.

(5) When the heavy vehicle stops, the authorised officer must as
soon as practicable produce for the inspection of the vehicle's driver-- (a)
for an authorised officer who is a police officer--an identity card or other
document evidencing the officer's appointment as a police officer; or
(b) for
an authorised officer who is not a police officer--the identity card issued to
the officer under this Law or another document evidencing the officer's
appointment as an authorised officer.
(6) Subsection (5)(a) does not apply to
a police officer in uniform.
(7) In this section--
"stop a heavy vehicle" means to stop the vehicle and keep it stationary.
