Deferral of jury service
14B Deferral of jury service
(1) A person who is required by summons to attend for jury service may apply
in writing to the sheriff for deferral of jury service to a later time within
the period during which the person may be summoned to attend for jury service.
(2) On receiving the application, the sheriff may defer the person's jury
service to a later time within that period.
(3) If the sheriff decides to
refuse the application, the sheriff must inform the applicant in writing of
the decision.
(4) The sheriff may not defer the jury service of a person who
has been summoned to attend at a trial or coronial inquest if the trial or
inquest has commenced.
