Sheriff may require information and verification of information
14C Sheriff may require information and verification of information
(1) The sheriff may require a person who claims or requests to be excluded or
exempted from jury service, or applies for deferral of jury service, to
provide evidence to the satisfaction of the sheriff to support the claim,
request or application.
(2) The sheriff may require any of the following
information to be verified by statutory declaration-- (a) information given in
a questionnaire under section 13,
(b) information provided to the sheriff for
the purpose of determining whether or not a person is excluded or is to be
exempted from jury service,
(c) information provided to the sheriff for the
purpose of determining whether or not a person's jury service should be
deferred.
(3) Proceedings may be taken for an offence against this Act or the
Oaths Act 1900 for providing false or misleading information to the sheriff
that is required to be verified by statutory declaration. However, a person is
not liable to be convicted of an offence under both Acts in relation to the
provision of the same information.
