69 Meaning of unsafe distance for persons, operating plant and vehicles for
overhead electric lines
(1) A person comes within an
"unsafe distance" of an overhead electric line if the person is within the
exclusion zone for the person for the line.
(2) Any operating plant, or a
vehicle, comes within an
"unsafe distance" of an overhead electric line if the operating plant or
vehicle is within the exclusion zone for the operating plant or vehicle for
the line.
(3) For applying this section— (a) a person includes any article
of clothing worn by the person, and any conductive object the person is
handling; and
(b) operating plant includes anything the operating plant is
handling, other than— (i) a person; or
(ii) a hand held object the person
is handling; and
(c) a vehicle includes anything the vehicle is carrying or
otherwise handling.
(4) Despite subsection (3) , the person, operating plant
or vehicle does not include an object, including, for example, a tool, that
alone or with another object or objects is an extension from the person,
operating plant or vehicle if the object— (a) is insulated; and
(b) the
object has been tested and found to be safe for use on and near the electric
line.
(5) In this section—
"exclusion zone" , for a person, operating plant or vehicle for an overhead
electric line, means the distance from the line stated for the person, plant
or vehicle in schedule 2 .
