Deciding and reviewing categories to which local governments belong
243 Deciding and reviewing categories to which local governments belong
(1) The remuneration commission must, for each local government, decide the
category of local government to which the local government belongs.
(2) When
making a decision about a local government under subsection (1) , the
remuneration commission must have regard to the criteria it used for
establishing categories of local governments.
(3) The remuneration commission
must, once during each local government term— (a) review the categories of
local governments established under section 241 ; and
(b) ensure the review
is completed before 1 December of the year before the year in which the next
quadrennial election is to be held.
(4) For subsection (3) , a
"local government term" is the period between a quadrennial election and the
next quadrennial election.
(5) After reviewing the categories, the
remuneration commission must— (a) decide whether to amend the established
categories; and
(b) if any established category of local government is
amended, again decide the categories of any local governments affected by the
amendment.
