TRANSPORT OPERATIONS (ROAD USE MANAGEMENT--VEHICLE STANDARDS AND SAFETY) REGULATION 2021 - REG 66
What is a certificate of inspection
(1) A
"certificate of inspection" is a certificate in the approved form issued for a
vehicle.
(2) The
"COI term" for a certificate of inspection issued for a vehicle is the
following period, including the day on which the certificate takes effect—
(a) for a heavy primary production vehicle—2 years;
(b) otherwise—1 year.
(3) A certificate of inspection for a vehicle— (a) takes effect— (i) for a
certificate issued not more than 2 months before the previous certificate for
the vehicle expires—on the day after the previous certificate expires; or
(ii) for a certificate issued during the COI period for the
previous certificate for the vehicle—on the day after the
previous certificate expired; or
(iii) otherwise—when the certificate is
issued; and
(b) continues in effect until the end of the COI term for a
certificate issued for the vehicle.
(4) For subsection (3) (a) (ii) , the
"COI period" for a previous certificate for a vehicle is the following period
for the vehicle, starting on the day after the previous certificate expired—
(a) for a heavy primary production vehicle—2 years;
(b) otherwise—1 year.
(5) Also, for a new vehicle for subsection (3) (a) (ii) , a
previous certificate is taken to have— (a) been issued for the vehicle on
the day the vehicle was first registered; and
(b) expired on the day before
the first anniversary of the vehicle’s registration.
(6) In this section—
"heavy primary production vehicle" means a vehicle mentioned in the Transport
Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2021 ,
section 241 .
"previous certificate" , in relation to a certificate of inspection issued
(the
"current certificate" ) for a vehicle, means the most recent
certificate of inspection issued for the vehicle before the
current certificate.
