CRIMINAL CODE (DECRIMINALISING SEX WORK) AND OTHER LEGISLATION AMENDMENT ACT 2024 - SECT 14
Amendment of s 218 (Procuring sexual acts by coercion etc.)
14 Amendment of s 218 (Procuring sexual acts by coercion etc.)
(1) Section 218 (1) —
omit, insert— (1) A person who— (a) by coercion, procures another person
to— (i) engage in a sexual act, either in Queensland or elsewhere; or
(ii)
provide, or continue to provide, commercial sexual services; or
(b) by
coercion, causes another person to provide, or continue to provide, payment
derived directly or indirectly from the provision of commercial sexual
services; or
(c) administers to another person, or causes the other person to
take, a drug or other thing with intent to stupefy or overpower the person to
enable a sexual act to be engaged in with the person;
commits a crime.
Penalty— Maximum penalty—14 years imprisonment.
(2) Section 218
(4) —
insert—
"coercion" includes, for example, coercion by— (a) intimidation or threats
of any kind; or
(b) assaulting a person; or
(c) damaging the property of a
person; or
(d) making false representations or using false pretence or
fraudulent means.
