10A—Exemption from registration and insurance for motor vehicles
returning from extinguishing or controlling a fire
(1) A motor vehicle
that has been driven from a location without registration or insurance in
accordance with the exemption specified in section 12B(1)(a) of the Act,
may be driven on roads without registration or insurance under Part 4 of
the Act subject to the following conditions:
(a) the
motor vehicle may only be driven, by the shortest practicable route, back to
that location or to another location at which the motor vehicle is to be kept;
(b) a
policy of public liability insurance indemnifying the owner and any authorised
driver of the motor vehicle in an amount of at least $5 000 000 in
relation to death or bodily injury caused by, or arising out of, the use of
the motor vehicle on roads must be in force.
(2) A person who
drives a motor vehicle on a road without registration or insurance under
Part 4 of the Act as authorised by this regulation must, if requested by
a police officer to do so, produce evidence of the person's public liability
insurance either—
(a)
forthwith to the police officer who made the request; or
(b)
within 48 hours after the making of the request, at a police station
conveniently located for the driver, specified by the police officer at the
time of making the request.
