(1) Any person who solicits, receives, or obtains, or agrees to receive or obtain, any property or benefit of any kind for himself or any other person, as a consideration for any agreement or understanding that he will compound or conceal a crime, or will abstain from, discontinue, or delay a prosecution for a crime, is guilty of a crime.Charge: Compounding a crime.(2) This section shall not apply to any case of common assault or defamation of a private person, or to any case where the court in which any proceedings have been taken in respect of the crime compounded shall have sanctioned any such agreement as aforesaid.
