EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM
General
The Local Government (Brimbank City Council) Act 2009 provides, in
section 10, that a general election for the Brimbank City Council is to be held
under section 31(1) of the Local Government Act 1989 on the fourth
Saturday in October 2012, along with elections for other municipal Councils.
This Bill amends section 10, providing that the next election for the
Brimbank City Council will be held on the fourth Saturday in March 2015.
Clause Notes
Clause 1 sets out the purpose of the Bill, which is to amend the Local
Government (Brimbank City Council) Act 2009 to provide for
a general election for the Brimbank City Council on the fourth
Saturday in March 2015.
Clause 2 provides for the provisions of the Bill to come into operation on
the day after Royal Assent.
Clause 3 amends the Principal Act to provide that--
an election in the municipality of Brimbank will not be
held on the fourth Saturday of October 2012; and
the next election in the municipality of Brimbank will
be held on the fourth Saturday of March 2015.
Clause 4 provides for the repeal of the amending Act at 12 months from
the date of Royal Assent.
