ASSISTED REPRODUCTIVE TREATMENT ACT 2008 (NO. 76 OF 2008) - SECT 150

    (1)     In section 4(1) of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996 insert the following definitions—

"" parent" means a person who is presumed under the Status of Children Act 1974 to be the mother, father or parent of a child;

"partner", in relation to a person, means—

        (a)         the person's spouse; or

        (b)                 a person who lives with the first person as a couple on a genuine domestic basis;

surrogacy arrangement has the meaning given by the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008 ;

"surrogate mother" means a woman who gives birth to a child pursuant to a surrogacy arrangement;".

    (2)     In section 4(1) of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996 , in the definition of "registrable event" , for "or adoption" substitute ", adoption or surrogacy arrangement".
